MOTS-C
Product Overview
MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded by the mitochondrial genome rather than the nuclear genome. It is a member of the mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) family and acts as a retrograde signaling molecule that translocates to the nucleus in response to metabolic stress.
In laboratory studies, MOTS-c is primarily utilized to investigate mitochondrial-nuclear communication and the regulation of metabolic homeostasis.
Research Applications
AMPK Pathway Activation: Study of the Folate-AICAR-AMPK signaling axis and its role in cellular energy sensing.
Metabolic Homeostasis: Investigation of glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells and lipid oxidation pathways.
Mitochondrial Biogenesis: Researching the expression of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes.
Cellular Longevity: Analyzing the correlation between endogenous MOTS-c levels and age-related metabolic decline in animal models.
